Bioscience Exploration for High Schoolers
Highlights from summer 2009
Program Description
The RIT campus, with its expansive natural environment and the modern high-tech laboratories of the Center for Bioscience Education and Technology, will host two unique and extraordinary opportunities for High School students (entering grades 9 - 11) to enrich their education and begin their preparation for college and careers.
Microbiology Program
Students will have an exciting opportunity to explore the diverse world of unseen microbes. They will participate in the collection and isolation of organisms from a variety of common sources and learn basic staining and microscopy techniques required for visualizing and identifying bacterial colonies. They will learn about those microorganisms that are essential for life and useful for our economy, as well as those that cause disease and threaten our very existence. This program will be offered twice in 2009.
Medical Science Program
Students who are thinking they might be interested in a career in a medical field will really enjoy this comprehensive exploration of the human body. They will examine human organs that are both healthy and diseased, and learn how to perform several routine diagnostic and medical laboratory procedures. They will also meet practitioners and discuss careers in the medical and allied health professions. This exciting program will be offered twice in 2009.
