Award Information
Summer Research Stipend:
The Research Scholars Program Summer Research Stipend is a competitive
$3000 + plus RIT housing (or $4000 if housing is not available) award
given to one RSP student to conduct summer research at RIT.
Rules:
- The award is intended to provide support for the student to work
on their research project full-time. (This means no moonlighting at
Mickey D's!).
- Work completed over the summer must be presented at either the annual
COS Undergraduate Research Symposium or the annual Rochester Academy
of Science meeting.
Who can apply? Any RSP student that is not graduating in May
is eligible to apply for the award. Students that plan to enter the
RSP program in Summer 2010 may also apply for this award, if they concurrently
submit their application to the RSP program.
What is the 2009 deadline? Due to the budget constraints this year, there will not be any travel awards available.

Travel Award:
The Research Scholars Program Travel Award is a competitive $500 award
given twice annually to an RSP student to pay for his/her travel expenses
while presenting original research at a national or regional meeting.
Rules:
- The award is intended to be used for meeting registration fees,
lodging, or other travel expenses specifically incurred by the student.
- The student must be either be a poster presenter, or a speaker at
the meeting. Travel awards will not be made just for meeting attendance.
- Preference will be made to students that have not received an RSP
travel award in the past
- Recipients of the travel award are required to write a short report
(~ 1 page) of their experience at the event for which they applied
the funds.
Who can apply? RSP students may apply for a travel award during
the Spring quarter to cover travel expenses incurred (including retro-active
travel expenses) during the months of March-August. RSP students may
apply in the Fall quarter for an award to cover travel expenses incurred
during the months of September-February

Distinguished Scholar Award:
The Distinguished Scholar Prize is awarded annually to graduating senior
research scholars who have demonstrated tremendous progress and have
performed above and beyond what was expected. The Distinguished Scholar
Award winners will be announced at the RSP graduation ceremony. The
requirements to become a Distinguished Scholar are as follows:
- Conduct research for at least 7 quarters with the same research
mentor (one full-time summer or quarter counts as 3 quarters), graduated with a 3.7 or higher GPA and completed at least one of the following:
- a peer-reviewed publication
- a presentation at a regional or national meeting (ie. not a student
symposium)
- a senior thesis
