Summer 2009: What a lucky guy! Josh Thomson and his research mentor Dr. Suzanne O'Handley traveled to
Zurich, Switzerland
to present their work at the 8th European Symposium of The Protein Society (June 14-18, 2009). It sure does pay off to work hard in the lab! |

Winter 2009: A big congratulations are in order for Jessica Alexander '10 for being awarded a Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. Jessica will receive $7000 toward her senior year at RIT. Jessica has been busy in Dr. Chris Collison's lab during the academic year and has been working at Harvard Medical Labs over the past few summers. What an accomplishment Jess! |

Summer 2008: DJ Tusch '10 was awarded a Glaxo Smith Kline undergraduate summer research fellowship. The award money will support DJ for one summer to conduct undergrauate organic chemistry research in Dr. Jeremy Cody's lab. Congratulations DJ!! |

Spring 2008:How cool is that? Jessica Alexander traveled to New Orleans, LA with fellow undergraduates and graduate students and her mentor Dr. Chris Collison to attend the National Meeting of the American Chemical Society on April 6-10th, 2008. A very fun time was had by all!

Spring 2008: Joshua
Thomson '10 was one of four RIT students to be awarded a Barry M.
Goldwater Scholarship. Josh will receive $15,000 over the next two
years and is the first sophomore from RIT to be designated a Goldwater
Scholar. He has been conducting research in the biochemistry laboratory
at RIT since the summer prior to his freshman year through RITs
honors research program. Thomsons research entails the characterization
of potential novel antibiotic targets from M. tuberculosis. Way
to go Josh! |

Summer 2008: Joshua
Thomson '10 presented a poster of his work on Nudix Hydrolases from
M. tuberculosis at the national ACS meeting (aug 17-21) held in
"the city of brotherly love".He was accompanied by his
research mentor Dr. Suzanne O'Handley, who encourages everyone to
go to Jim's Steaks next time they're in Philly. They also had the
opportunity to visit a research collaborator at Penn and make a
surprise visit to Ryan Walvoord (Research Scholar '07) while there.

Spring 2008 |
An awards ceremony and mingle honoring our chemistry
and biology research scholars was held on May 22nd, 2008 in the
Atrium and A-300. Families of the recipients were invited and it
proved to be quite a crowd. Opening remarks were made by Dr. Ian
Gatley Dean of the College of Sciece and each student was introduced
by their research mentor.

Spring 2007:Congratulations to
Jamie Lou Mallonga! She received the Research Scholar Travel Award
($500) this year and was accepted to present a poster of her work
at the annual "Undergraduate Reserach Posters on the Hill"
Symposium in Washington, D.C. in April, 2007. Sixty competitively
selected student posters were displayed at the U.S. Capitol during
a late afternoon reception. Click
