Bioinformatics Faculty Position
The School of Life Sciences at the Rochester Institute of Technology invites applications for a full time, tenure-track position beginning August 2012. The successful candidate must be able to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate level courses within the Bioinformatics program, and develop electives in accordance with his or her area of expertise. Responsibilities may include teaching introductory or gateway courses in Life Sciences. The candidate will be expected to develop an externally funded research program that involves undergraduate and graduate students and results in high-quality, peer-reviewed publications..

THE COLLEGE/ DEPARTMENT:         

The School of Life Sciences has 28 full time faculty, more than 400 full-time undergraduate majors in Biology, Bioinformatics, Molecular Bioscience and Biotechnology and Environmental Science and more than 30 students in our two MS programs in Bioinformatics and Environmental Science. QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:  Ph.D. in Biology or a related field at the time of appointment

PREFERRED:  Ideal candidates will possess some combination of the following qualifications:

  • Teaching experience with a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education.
  • Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Evidence of research ability as quantified by refereed publications.
  • Potential to obtain external funding.
  • Research expertise (PhD thesis or related efforts) in an area relevant to proteomics or protein structure determination or prediction.
  • Sufficient knowledge and experience to effectively teach a subset of the core courses in Bioinformatics.
  • Sufficient knowledge and experience to effectively teach courses in the School of Life Sciences.
  • Experience as a post-doctoral fellow
  • Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college’s continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.
