Research Interest

Evolutionary Biology
Reconciling morphological and molecular phylogenies of iguanas; biogeography of Mexico and Central America.

Potential Research Project

The published morphological and molecular phylogenies for iguanas are largely incongruent. In particular, members of the genus Ctenosaura are grouped together by morphology but form distinct groups on different branches of the family Iguanidae by mitochondrial DNA analysis. A nuclear gene, rhodopsin, will be sequenced for representatives of all 8 genera of Iguanidae and all species of the genus Ctenosaura to determine the best phylogeny.
