Research Interest

Cell and Molecular Biology
Microarray analysis of gene expression patterns in prion-expressing yeast.

Potential Research Project

DNA microarrays of the complete yeast genome were used to study changes in gene expression between two yeast strains, [PSI+] and [psi-], which differ only in the conformation of Sup35, a prion-like protein. Over- and under-expressed genes will be identified and confirmed by real-time PCR. Changes in gene expression will be used to build a model to explain the widely varied phenotypes for growth, viability, and survival in different environments found when [PSI+] and [psi-] strains of yeast are compared.
