Proteomic studies of NO signaling/response in Bacillus subtilis

Potential Research Project

A protein homologous to nitric oxide synthase (NOS) has been discovered in Bacillus subtilis. In mammals this protein is important in immune response, but its function in B. subtilis is unclear. Strains of B. subtilis will be cultured in the presence of NO-saturated water, NO-releasing agents or NOS inhibitors, and their protein expression patterns will be compared by 2-D gel electrophoresis.
