Potential Research Project

The nitrophenyl phosphatase family includes genes similar in sequence yet is diverse in function. NAGD from E. coli is a novel UMPase belonging to this family whose functional role in the cell is unknown; however the presence of homologs in other pathogens suggests that it may be a potential antibiotic target. An NAGD knockout mutant will be characterized to determine its functional role in the cell
