Research Interest

Evolutionary Physiology
Antibiotic resistance of enteric bacteria from wild species due to exposure to anthropogenic sources of antibiotics; effects of heavy metals on behavior of isopods (terrestrial crustacean species).

Potential Research Project

An increase in the incidence of antibiotic-resistant enteric bacteria has been observed in wild vertebrate species that have never had contact with humans. This may be due to overuse of antibiotics in livestock farms. Bacteria are being sampled from green frogs at several sites in central New York with different levels of exposure to livestock waste, and compared for antibiotic resistance levels.
