Research Scholars Program Sponsored Awards

Summer Research Stipend:

The Research Scholars Program Summer Research Stipend is a competitive $3000 + plus RIT housing (or $4000 if housing is not available) award given to one RSP student to pay for his/her living expenses while doing summer research at RIT.

Rules:

  • The award is intended to provide support for the student to work on their research project full-time. (This means no moonlighting at Mickey D's!).
  • Work completed over the summer must be presented at either the annual Chemistry Department. Undergraduate Research Symposium or the annual Rochester Academy of Science meeting.

Who can apply? Any RSP student that is not graduating in May is eligible to apply for the award. Students that plan to enter the RSP program in Summer 2006 may also apply for this award, if they concurrently submit their application to the RSP program.

Travel Award:

The Research Scholars Program Travel Award is a competitive $300-$500 award given twice annually to an RSP student to pay for his/her travel expenses while presenting original research at a national or regional meeting.

Rules:

  • The award is intended to be used for meeting registration fees, lodging, or other travel expenses specifically incurred by the student.
  • The student must be either be a poster presenter, or a speaker at the meeting. Travel awards will not be made just for meeting attendance.
  • Preference will be made to students that have not received an RSP travel award in the past

Who can apply? RSP students may apply for a travel award during the Spring quarter to cover travel expenses incurred (including retro-active travel expenses) during the months of March-August. RSP students may apply in the Fall quarter for an award to cover travel expenses incurred during the months of September-February

What are the 2006-2007 deadlines?

Fall quarter travel awards: September 15, 2006 (award to be used for travel this Fall/Winter)

Spring quarter travel awards: March 23, 2007 (award to be used for travel this Spring/Summer)

Distinguished Scholar Prize:

The Distinguished Scholar Prize is a cash prize ($500) awarded annually to the one student that submits the best written presentation of their work as a Research Scholar. All graduating students in RSP III must submit a publication-quality written presentation of their work as a program requirement. Non-graduating RSP students that are in their final quarter of RSP III may also submit their written presentation. Written presentations are accepted each quarter from students completing the Research Scholar Program. At the end of each academic year, in May, all presentations received during that year will be judged by the RSP committee. The Distinguished Scholar Prize winner will be announced at the RSP graduation ceremony. Each RSP Scholar may only submit a written presentation for judging one time.
