Graphing One-Dimensional Motion

Using graphs of motion

View the animation and answer the following questions.

  1. Does the graph accurately plot the data? Check two or three points.
  2. What is the name of the path that each ball travels?
  3. What is the name of the curve on the graph for each ball?
  4. How can you determine average velocity from the graph?
  5. How can you determine instantaneous velocity from the graph?
  6. At what time are the instantaneous velocities of the red ball and the blue ball equal? Use the graph to determine this.
  7. At what time are the instantaneous velocities of the black ball and the blue ball equal?
