WebAssign Instructions (9/4/04)

WebAssign is a computerized grading system that will be used for a portion of your grade. Log on to WebAssign at http://webassign.net/login.html.

Your Username is your DCE computer account name	vwl6673
Your Institution is rit	rit
Your Password initially is your DCE computer account name (I suggest you change it.) Do not use your DCE password!	vwl6673

You should then be on a screen for the course that looks something like the following.

NOTE: If you previously have used WebAssign, your password should be the same as it was before. If you have problems loggin in see your instructor.

The assignments are a mix of multiple choice, essay, and numerical questions. You will receive immediate feedback on multiple choice and numerical questions, and may be able to resubmit the assignment with corrrections. Your instructor will tell you the number of trials you will get for each assignment. Numerical questions will have some values randomized for each student. That is each of you will receive the same problem, but with somewhat different numbers. After the due date the answers to your assignment will be available.

You will need a WebAssign access card. If you purchase the RIT softbound version of the text, a card should be included. Otherwise you must purchase a card, either at the textbook desk in the bookstore or Online, at a cost of about $8.00. The card will have an access code which you will enter once to activate your account. You will be able to access your account without the access card for about the first 10 days of the quarter.

You must accept cookies, and should have JAVA enabled. If assigned, complete the "Introduction to WebAssign" assignment which will give you more details about the software. There is an Online Guide to WebAssign with the following table of contents.

Briefly:

1. Accept cookies from this site, enable JAVA
2. Numeric answers must be within 1% of correct answer to be graded correctly.
3. Scientific notation uses the E format, e.g. 1.5E-10
4. Numbers in red are randomly chosen and vary from student to student.
