Hockey arena groundbreaking set for October 2012
RIT has announced a date for the groundbreaking of their Division 1 hockey arena. Joining the list of activities during the university's Brick City Homecoming weekend, the groundbreaking will be held Friday, October 19 at 4:00 PM. The arena, being constructed on the south end of campus near the Student Alumni Union, will be completed in 2014, and is a critical need for the RIT Tigers to compete effectively in Division 1 hockey. The men's team has been competing in Division 1 since 2010, including a trip to the Frozen Four. The women's team, which won the Division 3 national title last year, will compete in Division 1 for the first time this season.
As part of Tiger Power Play: The Campaign for RIT Hockey, the university has launched the Take Your Seat initiative, offering the opportunity for individuals and organizations to place a personalized plaque on the seat of their choice in the new arena.
