Hockey arena groundbreaking set for October 2012

RIT has announced a date for the groundbreaking of their Division 1 hockey arena. Joining the list of activities during the university's Brick City Homecoming weekend, the groundbreaking will be held Friday, October 19 at 4:00 PM. The arena, being constructed on the south end of campus near the Student Alumni Union, will be completed in 2014, and is a critical need for the RIT Tigers to compete effectively in Division 1 hockey. The men's team has been competing in Division 1 since 2010, including a trip to the Frozen Four. The women's team, which won the Division 3 national title last year, will compete in Division 1 for the first time this season.

As part of Tiger Power Play: The Campaign for RIT Hockey, the university has launched the Take Your Seat initiative, offering the opportunity for individuals and organizations to place a personalized plaque on the seat of their choice in the new arena. For more information on how you can support RIT hockey through this effort, visit and click on the "Take Your Seat" tab at the top of the page.
