Building Momentum for an Entire Industry
Impressed by the momentum that RIT has within the commercial packaging industry, American Packaging Corporation believes that the combined energy and talent of their company and the university will achieve truly outstanding successes in packaging innovation. For that reason, the company established the American Packaging Center for Plastics & Packaging Innovation within the College of Applied Science & Technology. The $1 million gift to expand a previous center focused on plastics packaging will allow the College's Department of Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering Technology/Packaging Science to extend the Center's focus to other areas of packaging, as well as provide support for faculty research and student scholarship in new and innovative directions. APC CEO and President, Peter Schottland, says that his company is "extremely excited about the opportunity to join hands with RIT's packaging science program." He sees the partnership with RIT in exploring new packaging directions as an investment in his industry that will pay off in real benefits to APC in the future.
