A Community Partner Supports Community Outreach

When RIT began planning for a major academic center to bring together its bioscience degree programs and our training programs in the health sciences, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield saw an opportunity to partner with us to introduce biosciences careers to children in the community. The Excellus BlueCross BlueShield Center for Bioscience Exploration and Discovery consists of four sophisticated, high-tech teaching laboratories and one “smart” classroom. The Center is used by RIT students during the academic year, exposing the Excellus commitment to college students pursuing allied health degrees. The Center is also the home to K-12 teacher training, student workshops and adult continuing education programs for members of the Rochester community on weekends, evenings and throughout the summer months. Supported by a 10-year, $2 million grant, from Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, the Excellus Center will always be fully equipped with the most modern, cutting-edge technology.
