Jim Yarrington gives to honor a friend and colleague
"I've been part of RIT's campus planning area for nearly 17 years, and it has been my pleasure to not only see the campus grow and change over the years, but to actually be part of making that change happen. As an employee who is committed to the mission of the university, I believe it is important to give to RIT and easy to select an area of the university that is meaningful to me.
For some time I joined my colleagues in Facilities Management Services in support of the FMS Scholarship — a great fund to support students who worked for our area while they attended RIT. I watched many of these students grow professionally over the years, and helping offset the cost of their RIT education was a joy. However, last year I lost a dear friend and colleague in the architecture industry, Peter DeBraal. Pete was a Senior Associate at SWBR Architects, and we shared a lifelong passion for architecture. When Pete passed away, several of my architecture colleagues and I decided to create an endowed fund in his name in RIT's Master of Architecture degree program. This fund is a testament to Pete's legacy as an outstanding architecture professional and a caring person. Giving to honor his memory is one of my greatest pleasures."
