We welcome those generous donors who are interested in setting up a scholarship fund in their own name or in memory or honor of a student, faculty member, or program. There are three types of scholarships that can be created:
Restricted Scholarships – You can create a restricted scholarship, name it for yourself, your family, or in memory of someone, and you can designate it to the college/school/program of your choice. By completing a Statement of Intent form, you can determine how you want RIT to award your scholarship funds (e.g., select criteria such as academic achievement, demonstrated need, student affiliations, etc.). You can create a restricted scholarship with a gift of $5,000, and you can continue to support this scholarship over many years by making an annual gift to your fund.
Endowed Scholarships – This type of scholarship continues in perpetuity. An endowed scholarship may also be named for you, your family, or in memory of someone, and it may be designated to the college/school/program of your choice. Again, you will complete a Statement of Intent form to clarify how you want the funds awarded. The minimum gift for an endowed scholarship is $50,000.
Unrestricted Scholarships – If you are interested in helping students who are most in need of help in funding their RIT education, you have the option of setting up a scholarship fund - again, in your own name or in memory of someone special to you - and specifying that your scholarship fund will be distributed to students in good academic standing who demonstrate the greatest need. This type of scholarship requires a minimum annual commitment of $1,000 or more that will allow you to continue your support over many years.
