The Deaf Initiative in Information Technology (DIIT) was
awarded the “Outstanding Community Service Award” by the Rochester Black
Deaf Advocates (RBDA) on October 2, 2004 at their Annual Black Tie Gala.
In presenting the award, (the project was) praised ... in part as follows:
Perhaps (what) warms the heart most – and certainly
(what) we celebrate today – is that ... DIIT has taken the time to reach-out
to underserved and underrepresented [Black] deaf/hard-of-hearing individuals.
Among other things, DIIT has:
- Co-sponsored several RBDA Information Technology
workshops and programs.
- Advertised DIIT workshops through the National Black
Deaf Advocates (NBDA) website and publications.
- Presented papers at NBDA conferences.
- Worked to extend the benefits of sponsored IT workshops
to other “BDA” Chapters.>
