Workshop Description and Goals

 

Attend the five-day Introduction to Java Programing workshop June 16-20, 2008 at a cost of $500 at RIT/NTID in Rochester, NY. The workshop will be held daily from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

 

This workshop provides participants with the introductory knowledge and skills to develop object-oriented applications using the popular Java programming language.

  • Introduction to object-oriented programming
  • Write, compile, and execute Java programs
  • Language syntax
  • Java Basics: variables, data types, statements, flow control
  • Simple output
  • Calling methods
  • Defining classes
  • Developing the Graphical User Interface (GUI)
  • Exceptions
  • Read and write data using I/O Streams
  • Java IDEs

Prerequisites

 

This workshop is designed for individuals who have little or no experience using Java programming language. Participants should have experience with at least one other programming language, such as Visual Basic, C, C++, or Pascal, and have basic computer skills.
