Attend the 1-day Introduction to Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) workshop at a cost of $150, at NTID/RIT in Rochester NY. The workshop will start 8:30 AM and end at 4:00 PM.
RFID is an automatic identification method for storing and retrieving data using a device called an RFID “tag”.  This tag is an object that can be applied to or implanted into a product, animal or person for the purpose of identification using radio waves.
 
In this workshop, attendees will gain an understanding of the RFID technology as well as some of the hardware and software products and capabilities that make this identification method work.

  • RFID technology – how does it work?

  • Current and potential uses.

  • Current – passports, transportation payments, product tracking, implants for animal and human identification, book identification (libraries), automotive and more.

  • Potential – replacing barcodes, telemetry, patient identification, and more.

  • RFID tags, tag types and readers.

  • Tags – passive, semi-passive, active, antenna types.

  • RFID tag placement.

  • Problems, concerns and controversies.

  • Global standardization, information security, viruses, cancer risk, privacy, human implantation, religious opinion.
