Workshops > Self-Publishing a Book

Workshop Description and Goals
- Postponed due to Instructor Injury

Attend the five-day Self-Publishing a bookworkshop on a date TBD at a cost of $500, at RIT/NTID in Rochester, NY. The workshop will be held daily from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

Have you ever thought of publishing your own book, seeing your words, thoughts and images in print? Well, here is your chance. This interactive course is just what you need to learn about self publishing. This workshop provides the opportunity to learn what it takes to self publish your very own book, from preparing images and proper font usage to page layout best practices. Participants will have the opportunity to build actual books using provided text to actively use your new publishing skills.

Hands-on activities are planned to demonstrate how to use such publishing tools as Adobe InDesign and QuarkXPress to create books ready for printing. Workshop participants are encouraged to bring their own works in progress for discussion only. Participants will not be able to produce their own books in this workshop.

The workshop will be a combination of demonstrations, discussion, and hands on activities. A tour of a local printer or printing departments on the RIT campus is a possibility. This will also be a hands-on workshop with guided learning activities covering concepts for making, editing, reviewing, managing, and producing a self-published book.
