Workshop Description and Goals

 

Attend the five-day Introduction to Microsoft Visual Basic.NET workshop June 9-13, 2008 at a cost of $500, at NTID/RIT in Rochester, NY. The workshop will be held daily from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

 

This workshop provides participants with the introductory knowledge and skills to develop applications in Microsoft Visual Basic .NET for the Microsoft .NET platform.

 

Topics

• Working with forms and controls

• Using variables, constants, and arrays

• Decision structures, loops, and more controls

• Working with sub and function procedures

• Validating user input

• Object-oriented programming in VB.NET

• Handling errors and exceptions

• Enhancing the Graphical User Interface (GUI)

• Using ADO.NET

• Deploying applications

Prerequisites

 

This workshop is designed for individuals who have little or no experience using Microsoft Visual Basic.NET. Participants should have experience with at least one other programming language, such as Java, C, C++, or Pascal, and have basic computer skills.

Joseph Stanislow - Workshop Leader

Joseph Stanislow is an Assistant Professor and a deaf faculty member in the Information and Computing Studies department at the Rochester Institute of Technology’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf. Joe has been teaching and tutoring computer and information technology to BS students for over 7 years. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from the Rochester Institute of Technology and a Master of Science in Computer Science from Stevens Institute of Technology. Before joining the NTID faculty he worked for several companies as an electrical engineer, a physical designer, and a computer programmer for over 20 years.
