Bernadette Lynch, Director

I have had the privilege of serving RIT students in a variety of roles since 1992. I graduated from Canisius College with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and a Master's in Education is from Indiana University. I enjoy all aspects of my position and look forward to seeing students successfully graduate and go out and make their mark in the world. Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family and great friends. I have 2 sons and am active in their school and their extracurricular activities. I also love to read, exercise, and am taking classes at RIT for a second masters degree.

My main responsibilities include:

  • Supervise staff and provide the overall direction for the program.
  • Implement and evaluate program activities.
  • Assess on-going needs of TRiO SSS students and develop creative ways to meet these needs.
  • Serve as a support specialist to a caseload of students.

Judy Bernhart, Academic Coordinator

I was born in Cleveland, Ohio. I graduated from Cedarville College in Ohio (social sciences, music, religion) and the University of Chicago (education). Early teaching experience was in Ixmiquilpan, Hidalgo, Mexico (grades 5-9) with the Instituto Linguistico de Verano. My interests include: the MBTI, pedagogy, history of Europe and the Americas, family, the English language, Go, nutrition and cooking, history of science and mathematics, vegetable gardening, questions from philosophy, science fiction and flower arranging.

My main responsibilities include:

  • Serving as a support specialist to a caseload of students
  • Working individually with students in liberal arts courses and writing papers
  • Providing financial literacy programming for students

Rachel Flaherty, Coordinator of Tutoring, Technology, and Academic Records

I grew up in Webster, NY and I am pleased to be back living in the Rochester area after earning my Bachelor's degree in Finance from Siena College and my Master's in College and Agency Counseling / Student Affairs Professional Practice from SUNY Plattsburgh. I have had the pleasure of being at RIT since July 2013 and truly enjoy working with TRiO SSS students. I enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, skiing, and being on water. If you are a TRiO SSS student and looking for the tools you need to succeed - I'm here to help!

My main responsibilities include:

  • Serving as a support specialist to a caseload of students.
  • Recruiting, hiring, training and supervising peer tutors and matching tutors with tutee requests.
  • Serving as liaison with Financial Aid, Registrar's Office and Advisor's Council, and staff resource on financial literacy issues.
  • Monitoring and maintaining the program database.
  • Program assessment.

Liz Bremer, Math Instructor/Support Specialist

I am excited to be a full time staff member for TRiO Student Support Services!!! I earned a B.A in Mathematics from Nazareth College, a M.S. in Applied Financial Mathematics from the University of Connecticut, a M.S in Higher Education Administration from University of Rochester, and am completing my dissertation for an Ed.D in Educational Leadership - Higher Education from the University of Rochester. I enjoy working with students; whether it is collaborating on math problems or talking about the college experience, providing a place for students to sit and talk is important to me. When I am not in RIT I like to cook, read, and spend time with my friends and family.

My main responsibilities include:

  • Providing individual math planning and support for students.
  • Coordinating and advising the Peer Mentor program.
  • Serving as a support specialist to a caseload of students.
  • Promoting and advertising TRiO SSS to the RIT community.

Kris Shamp, Sr. Staff Assistant

I was born and raised in Chili, NY and still reside there. I am married and have two children. I thoroughly enjoy all the students I work with at RIT. I have made some amazing friends as well and will continue to do so. I enjoy reading, working out, and spending time with family and friends.

My main responsibilities include:

  • Oversee front desk reception area including student staff (hiring and supervising)
  • Coordinating all tutor paperwork
  • Take minutes for the TRiO SSS Advisory Board

Beth Caito, Program and Financial Assistant

I have worked at RIT for 20 years. I truly enjoy all aspects of my position but especially enjoy student contact. When I'm not at RIT, I enjoy spending time with my family. I have a son who is active playing baseball and soccer and a daughter who enjoys dancing and being a Girl Scout. In addition to family, I love to read, cook/bake and crafts of any kind.

My main responsibilities include:

  • Reconcile monthly financial expenditures.
  • Provide budget support to the Director.
  • Assist with publications and special events.
