Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT, Dubai) campus community took part in RIT’s Global Day of Service, a day-long event that takes place around the globe, where RIT alumni come together to volunteer for a range of service projects.
RIT Dubai alumni and students volunteered at Awqaf-Dubai Minor Affairs Foundation with families of orphaned children. It was a day full of fun and excitement with children and volunteers enjoying games and rides in one of Dubai’s popular play areas followed by lunch.
RIT Dubai Alumni Chapter Leader, Ms. Asma Lootah, had the idea of the Dubai initiative and coordinated efforts with the Foundation and the RIT Dubai Alumni Office. To “put a smile of children’s face” was Ms. Lootah’s inspiration. The initiative was warmly received and welcomed by the Foundation and the families of the children. “It is very good you are supporting the local community and working with the Foundation and our children”, one family member commented.
The event, took place on Saturday, September, 17, 2016 the same day as all other RIT events of community service. RIT Alumni around the world, including cities such as USA, Croatia, Dubai and Mumbai, completed mission work, conduct landscaping and clean up projects, helped distribute food, volunteer in orphanages, and work with homeless animals. Volunteer opportunities were organized in 21 different regions, with 28 individually registered sites.
In addition to Dubai and Rochester, projects took place in:
- Los Angeles
- New York City
- San Francisco
- South Florida
- Washington, D.C.
