RIT Dubai celebrated the OnespiRIT festival yesterday (Saturday 22 October) across its global campuses: New York, Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Kosovo and in Dubai, for simultaneous celebrations to highlight the links between campuses and bring students together.
In Dubai, hundreds of students turned out to the RIT Dubai sports courts where a range of free activities and food stalls were set up under a carnival theme with activities ranging from fire-twirling, Human foosball, a mechanical bull ride and carnival stalls. DJs from the Redbull Wing team entertained the crowd late into the night.
The event in Dubai was attended by guest of honor, H.H Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed al Nahyan who met with students, staff and faculty and commended them on a job well done.
A game show involving teams from all campuses was won by Dubrovnik campus. A fun aspect was that many of the competitors for the teams were visiting students from overseas campuses.
Kelly Gosa, Assistant Director for Student Life which organized the event with the help of other departments said: “It’s great to see so many students here enjoying themselves and it’s important for students to realize that they are part of a wider global RIT community. We have quite a few students from here studying overseas and coming to RIT Dubai from other campuses, but it’s when you have these kind of events that you realize the scale of our global network.”
Third year Marketing student Romina Sattari added “It was a nice change for the usual day to day at University and great to hang out with students in a different environment. It’s wonderful to link up with our global campuses”.
The first OneSpiRIT event in 2014 highlighted Rochester’s favorite campus pastime, hockey, but the emphasis is now on each of the unique global campuses and what makes them great.
