The digital revolution makes this an exciting time to study Computing
and Information Sciences. RIT has been a leader in computing education
since 1972, when the university started one of the first undergraduate computer science programs in the United States, and the nation’s first undergraduate programs in information technology and software engineering.
At RIT Dubai, we offer you a comprehensive approach to computing through courses and programs that focus on the discovery of new ideas, the development of software and other products that flow from those ideas, and the application of those ideas and products in our everyday lives. Specialized research, outstanding computing facilities and resources, interaction through computer networks, and real-world experience through cooperative education enhance the educational program and classes.
As an RIT Dubai student, you may take part in courses and research with faculty members who are investigating areas that interest you, including artificial intelligence, human-computer interaction, gaming, interface design, software engineering, databases, system software, robotics, social computing, networking, wireless and computing security, virtual reality, and multimedia.
From small firms that use networked computers solely for internal communications to multinational firms that depend on huge networks of servers and client computers to conduct business on a global scale, network and system administrators are found in nearly every business. They design, build, and/or maintain local area networks and gateways to the Internet. They specify, procure, deploy, and maintain computer hardware and software. They support developers of Web and database applications. And they provide the environment in which software developers operate. In short, they identify and take care of the networking and infrastructure needs of their users.
Information Security and Forensics
Demand for professionals who can identify security vulnerabilities, prevent intrusions, and detail the extent and nature of disturbances when they occur—and apply these skills to new systems and technology as they emerge—increases every day. As a graduate of the program, you can look forward to an exciting and challenging career in one of the fastest growing employment sectors in the world. Designed to give you expertise in the identification of computer security vulnerabilities and the detection of security exploitation, the program helps you develop a keen understanding of the processes and people affected by these issues.
The explosive growth of the Web and its universal acceptance by society has changed the computing landscape forever. In addition to their place as traditional desktop or laptop processors, computers are popping up in a number of consumer goods we use every day—cars, appliances, phones … you name it. To make the most of this technology, users need to be able to function effectively and appropriately within this complex environment. Leading the way are information technologists. RIT’s information technology program, was first such program in the US, and the same program will now also prepare RIT Dubai students to excel in this role of users’ advocate.
