Major General Obaid Muhair bin Suroor inaugurates event

Dubai, UAE: Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Dubai has joined forces with Taqdeer, Dubai Government's labor welfare initiative, to host a community Spring Fest at its state-of-the-art campus. The event kicked off with an inauguration ceremony led by Major General Obaid Muhair bin Suroor, Deputy Director General of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai, Chairman of Dubai's Permanent Committee of Labor Affairs, and Chairman of the Taqdeer Award.

The Spring Fest, held across RIT Dubai's expansive 129,000 square meter campus in Dubai Silicon Oasis, featured a plethora of activities including corporate games, family fun zones, and an exhibition of rare and luxury cars. Over 500 participants, including representatives from corporate partners, the laborer community, university staff and students, as well as members of the general public, came together to enjoy the festivities.

In collaboration with Corporate Sports, the day was filled with competitive corporate games such as basketball, volleyball, football, badminton, squash, and dodgeball. Major General Obaid, after officially opening the event, joined the Taqdeer team on the football pitch to participate in the opening match. Teams from strategic partners including Nestle, FAB, Salesforce, du, W Motors, and Daikin also took part in the contests.

Expressing his appreciation for the event, Major General Obaid highlighted RIT's role in organizing a gathering that fosters unity and enjoyment among diverse groups. "We are grateful to RIT Dubai for hosting this wonderful community celebration," he remarked.

Saleh Yammout, Vice President of Finance and Administration for RIT Dubai, emphasized the importance of strengthening ties with the local community through events like Spring Fest. "This event is about bringing together our partners and the wider public in an informal way as part of our commitment to strengthening our relations with the local community," he said.

Among the participants in the corporate games was RIT Dubai alumni Laith Al-Shuha, who graduated with a degree in electrical engineering in 2021 and now works as a content engineer with corporate partner Odoo. Al-Shuha, a member of Odoo’s volleyball team at the event, expressed his gratitude for the opportunities provided by RIT Dubai, stating, "The university always created new opportunities for us to develop and grow as students, and it’s exciting to see these activities extending into the local community."

Throughout the day, families enjoyed carnival games, musical performances, arts and crafts in the kids’ zone, and an impressive exhibition of precision-crafted automobiles. The event concluded with an awards ceremony honoring the winning sports teams.
