RIT, the Rochester Institute of Technology was established in 1829, and it is located in Henrietta in Rochester, New York. It has been a highly successful university by providing top-notch education and it is considered globally as a leading university in the programs that they offer especially the Engineering and Business programs. RIT has been awarded by being in the top of the private universities around the world and in United States of America, placing at the 15th place in the USA. The university has been known to open branches all over the world such as Turkey and Kosovo, and most recently the striking city of Dubai. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rochester_Institute_of_Technology). Dubai is known for its ever-growing boom in technology and business as well as the thriving culture, has made a decisive decision in opening an RIT branch in its home country. Located in Silicon Oasis, a vast entrepreneurial sector filled with a majority of successful businesses, it has been open since 2008. Initially it was opened for students who wanted to get their master's degree but by 2010 in became a full on university offering undergraduate programs such as Business and Engineering. The university embodies its true colors by being decorated from head to toe in the flags original colors like brown and orange. The tiger is also a sign of strength and courage that not only the university shows but the students as well. RIT Dubai truly symbolizes those immense things that truly come in small packages.
RIT is like a home of a small campus for the students it welcomes, but with many facilities that are included. Among the facilities the first one you see when you enter the lobby is "Cino Cafe" which has a selection of edible foods like pizza or croissant and delicious drinks like a milkshake. In the first floor you have a library that is unsupervised but is definitely a fun place to be in allowing fun and education both at the same time to happen. Also on the same floor there is the bookstore that sells books and a wonderful selection of merchandise like shirts, caps, and hoodies. The hallways of the first floor are mostly classes and the professor’s offices. There is also a music club that is decked out in guitars and drums in which students are free to use whenever they want. The conference room is an area where meeting as well as university parties happen; attending one is a guaranteed good experience. The second floor has a fully equipped gym that has all new gear and a fully well organized schedule and it is also filled with classes and labs for research. The down side of the second floor is the restaurant that will be opened soon. The outside of the university is surrounded by courts like Basketball. A five-minute walk will take you to Silicon Oasis, which is an industrial building with many offices inside; the nice thing about it is that it has a grocery store and many restaurants like Costa or Subway.
The university offers great education for all kinds of students for the strongest or the weakest. Many of the teachers understand that not all individuals are alike and by that understand comes a good grading system that is flexible but is also not extremely harsh. Each class is two hours long but most teachers believe in giving a right amount of time and breaks in between periods. The classes include top-notch seating and they not only have white boards but also an electronic board. The books provided in the bookstore are always the latest editions; the books are advanced and easy to understand. Part of what's really good about the university is "My Courses" the website that posts the students marks, drop box to drop in homework, and also the syllabus along with all the teachers notes and slide. The best part of the university is the fact that the university is small and all the teachers know who you are as well as your name. Getting marks is not hard in RIT it is easy if you're willing to put in effort and you must be able to study on a daily basis because if you do leave everything in the last minute your marks might get effected. The transfer rate of the university is excellent with students not only transferring to other universities but also transferring to RIT branches outside Dubai. When someone goes to a branch outside they pay the same fees as the Dubai one, which is much cheaper. It offers another kind of experience to most students especially for the ones who have never really experienced outside areas before.
The university might be small in size but the students are all very different in all their backgrounds and personalities. There are over thirty different cultures known in the university from Indians, Emiratis, Palestinians, Jordanians, Americans, Chinese, Syrian, etc. It's not only the diverse cultures that intertwine but also the different personalities clashing together. You see yourself sitting next to the next CEO of some big time company or a president of some sort. Most people are strong-minded and very opinionative. A person can definitely learn from being surrounded by all these culture whether positive or negative, you can take away a whole lot of knowledge. Dubai is also a wonderful place for hangouts, of course after school hours are done you and your friends can enjoy a selection of malls like Mall of Emirates, Dubai Mall, Mirdiff City Center, etc or enjoying a great time in the palm or Jumeriah Beach Resort.
In conclusion I believe that although the university is still not well known to all in the Arab world it truly is a great opportunity. Whether you want to transfer in future years outside or just experience a more open environment in a university besides the one others offer, even the dorms at Etisalat Academy are very open and free. Life in this university is definitely stress free and very easy going. It provides the best of both worlds by not only making you achieve great education but also an awesome time with wonderful experience. Sometimes people shouldn't pay attention to the size or how many years something has been in, I truly believe that the people attending the university are going to be making history by entering RIT Dubai. It is a wonderful example of starting a new chapter and building a bridge between the outside and the Arabic world. Together we can debunk that the Arabic world is closed and that it doesn't offer good education, this is false and we are a prime example of pure genius.
