I am a swimmer. I have been a swimmer for 12, almost 13 years now. At this point in my life, I've gotten used to the green hair, the late meets, the endless road trips to meets etc... When I decided to swim Master's this summer, I was aware that I would have to get up at 4:45 am to make a 5:30 morning practice. However, I wasn't planning on it being next to IMPOSSIBLE to get to bed before 11. And me without at least 6 hours of sleep is NOT a good thing. Misery level for bystanders is comperable to getting gored by a charging rhino.
4 days a week, I rise at the ungodly hour of 4:45 am and drive to practice. I'm in the water by 5:25, and out by 6:45. Then I head back home for a quick snack and my books, and I'm on my way to class at the local community college. After class (which, by the way, goes until 3:20), I come back home, grab food, and drive myself and my siblings to their swim practice at the YMCA, where I work as an assistant coach. Basically, by the time we get home at night, I'm in a serious state of dead, only to do it all again in 5 hours or so. Summer was supposed to be time to sleep late, and instead I'm getting up earlier in the summer than I do during the school year!
