Alice and an 'Elephantman' in the 'True West' of 'Arcadia'

What I love about RIT is that there's always some sort of theatre production being put on. Whether it's being done by a group of students, the RIT Players, or NTID, I can always look forward to something to see on the weekend.

Currently, the RIT Players are working on two productions. This weekend, March 20 - 22, is a student directed performance of the piece True West by Sam Shepard. True West is about sibling rivalry between two estranged brothers who have reconnected. It's going to be a great performance, and it involves a kitchen being destroyed and lots of toasters! (and it's free!) True West is being directed by students Nathaniel Rotunno and Andrew Gibson. The Players are also currently working on the play, Arcadia, by Tom Stoppard. We are currently reading and analyzing this play in my theatre production seminar, and I suggest to everyone to read it. It's a great play, and after reading it I fell in love with the story and now I am extremely excited to see the performance. For more about Arcadia go here Arcadia is being directed by Roger Freeman, and this is his last production here at RIT. :( Dates for the show are April 23-26.

NTID is also currently working on a couple productions. First there is the Elephantman by Bernard Pomerance. This is also a free show, being performed April 14, 18, and 19. For more information go here The other production they are working on is Alice and Wonderland based on the stories of Lewis Carroll. This is a shadow acting performance, where the deaf performers are in front acting, and behind them follow their hearing double, who acts and speaks at the same time they sign. Their past production of Othello was just like this, and it's a great experience (especially if you're into theatre or acting). This performance is on April 29-May 1, but then also May 2, 3, 8, and 9. For more information go here

This season is going to be exciting in the theatre aspect, and I can't wait to see all these shows! Also, the 24 Hour show is coming up the ninth week? I think , and I will talk more about that when it approaches.
