Construction Updates # 2

(February 02 2010) Written by: Emily Okey

Remember my post [here] about the construction over the summer? Well a lot more than just the color of the sky and temperature has changed since then.

NOW:
Global Village is not entirely done yet (as made obvious by the exposed wood and steel beams) however, they have been making huge progress on it.

For those who might not know, Global Village is a new housing option that will be opening fall 2010. It's going to not only house more students but also have some more restaurants/hang out places on the bottom level. Outside they are going to have a dining area (for the summer/fall) that can be changed into an outdoor ice skating rink! You can actually follow RIT Housing on [facebook] and see some more of the updates.

As you could probably tell on the older construction blog post, there were a number of spots around campus that are being upgraded/expanded so I'll hopefully get around to all of them this week to show you the progress :)

This is so awesome! I can't wait for Open House in April ... heck, I can't even wait till my freshmen year in RIT starts! Maybe I'll be set in the new housing? o_O maybe maybe ...

Maybe your second year. From what I understand the Global Village is mostly sophomore housing and international/study abroad experience housing. But the dorms will be really nice next year because there will be so much room due to the increasing in sophomores living in Global Village

I've heard the same, Josh. I've heard a lot of talk about international/study abroad things as well as them trying to incorporate the entrepreneurial stuff.

They're actually doing this neat thing that allows students to submit their own photographs from abroad to be used as artwork in the new buildings :) http://finweb.rit.edu/housing/futurehousingupdates.html
