Construction Updates & College and Careers
College & Careers was a blast last weekend! I'm already looking forward to the next one August 7th and 8th. Victor did a good job of summing up all of the various activities that were going on throughout campus in his last blog post.
Hopefully there are some new readers here?!? I mentioned the blogs in both of the student panels so to all of the new people... Welcome! Feel free to leave comments or questions if you ever have any. Requests for new blog topics are always welcomed too.
The weekend was meant for prospective families and students to get a feel for life on campus (by staying in the dorms) and attending mini-academic sessions. The activities on campus included everything from campus tours, student panels, meals in the dining hall to a survivor challenge, hamster ball races and volleyball games in the student life center. It's a great chance for you to see what college life is like as well as discover what potential career path you might be interested in. As heard in the panel, you can change your mind!! Many people apply as one major and by the time you get here you may discover an entirely new field of interest. This switch is very easy and is done by talking to an academic advisor or department head.
It managed to stay relatively nice all weekend with little to no rain! One of the things we did run into was all of the construction on campus. We apologize for the temporary inconvenience...but it seems well worth it, right?
Here's a sneak peek at some of the projects...
This is the Vignelli Center for Design Studies which is a new wing that is being added to the side of building 7 (home of the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences-- my college!!) It will be open and finished by Fall 2010.
Halfway down the quarter mile is the Woodward Pool renovations. This is the old home of the swimming pool, the pool has recently been removed and they are planning 30,000 sq feet of new club space. Finished January 2010.
In the SAU,. the bookstore was taken out last year and moved over to Park Point. They are now building an entirely new retail area with a bakery/coffeeshop and computer store. Completed by the end of the Summer!
This is a completed project, but I thought I'd show pictures anyway.. the new Innovation Center! It opened just in time for Imagine RIT this spring and the inside is gorgeous.
Personally, I think this is going to be the coolest addition... Global Village It's a commerical and residential area combined into one. The project has just begun and should be finished by Fall 2010.

Emily – this is a great post! I think that RIT and future RIT people alike can get a lot of information about the projects going on. And I LOVE that you took pictures of all of these projects – sometimes I am not able to make it around campus to see all of the progress and it is quite impressive how fast these things are being completed. It does seem that this summer in particular the construction projects are overtaking the campus – but here we try to do the construction and renovations over the summer because fewer students are on campus taking classes. I can’t wait to see the finished products!

My name is Pedro and I'm sorry I will not be able to attend the College and Careers workshops. I will try to schedule a visit for next week, although I have a scheduled visit for the September 26th Open House. Do you think it will count against me when I apply this fall if I did not attend the College and Careers workshops? I hope not because RIT seems to be the school that I would like to attend.
