Tonight was the annual RAF (Rochester Advertising Federation) Speed Dating event. Though not literal speed dating, the event is organized in a similar fashion. Students have the opportunity to speak with professional photographers, graphic designers, art directors, and project managers in the Rochester area. Every 7 minutes, students rotate and move on to the next creative professional.
The event is a really great way for students to network and ask questions. I didn't plan on going but my friend suggested we go and I figured, "why not?" It was a really good experience! Aside from the free food (yum), I had a chance to talk with people about the creative, professional world I'll be heading into in a little over a year (so scary!). The professionals were all knowledgeable and helpful and made it really easy and fun to sit down and talk about the opportunities we have as design students.
There are all kinds of opportunities like this one offered at RIT and in the Rochester community. For all you prospective students, my only advice is: just do it! Don't miss out on all the great things college can offer.
And remember, it's not what you know, it's who you know!
