Detroit Here We Come!
"RIT? How about RIP, for the remains from the carnage
that has been created in the first two days of the 2010 NCAA hockey
tournament?"
This is absolutely my favorite quote that came out of the news this weekend. From ESPN, the Democrat & Chronicle even to NHL.com, RIT was well covered this weekend.
If you haven't already heard, I suggest googling "RIT hockey" immediately. RIT beat Denver (the # 2 ranked team in the country on Friday night) and then proceeded to crush UNH (University of New Hampshire) 6-2 last night.
This weekend included not one, but two, round trips to Albany. Saturday morning I stood outside in line with over a hundred other people for almost 3 hours waiting to buy tickets for the game. It was COLD but so worth it.

During the UNH game they were tied 1-1 at the end of the first period. They came back during the second, scored 1 to make it 2-1 and then proceeded to score 2 more goals (all three goals were made in less than 1 minute and 38 seconds). Let's just say there was a LOT of cheering. So much cheering, in fact, that most of us did not even see that second goal because they scored it so close to the first.
I love the fact that no one expected RIT to get this far ever. It just makes it better when they come out of no where and wipe out the 2nd ranked team in the country.
From here, they're headed to the Frozen Four in Detroit Michigan. I'd absolutely love to go to the game but I'm not entirely sure it's going to be possible at the moment. If I can't, we're planning viewing parties on campus complete with lots and lots of cheering! The game is at 5:00 on Thursday the 8th of April (so be watching for it on ESPN!!!) They will be playing University of Wisconsin Madison which happens to be where both of my parents went for college so it would be super neat to see RIT beat them ;) I think they will actually be rooting for the Tigers anyway (or at least they better be!)
In my opinion at least, college hockey is far more interested to watch than the NHL or anything like that. (subtle hints that you might want to check out a college hockey game??)
GO TIGERS!

It will most likely take place in the Ritz Sportszone which is located downstairs in the SAU (Student Alumni Union). I know they held one there for the past two games as well as another viewing in the new Campus Center (which is actually connected to the SAU) right across from Clark Gym. Both will be rambunctious and very very orange!!
