First Lady Michelle Obama Visits Vermont
Yesterday at work rumors started circulating through the intern cubicle that First Lady Michelle Obama had been spotted in Burlington, VT! We all assumed she would be working the campaign or speaking on the University of Vermont campus – turns out she had traveled here to visit with the National Guard and reserve families to thank and support our troops. However, just in case she decided to take a detour through our company or travel down Church Street, we started brainstorming questions to ask. If I was given one question with the First Lady I would ask her if she had any advice for young women pursing careers in which they are the minority. For the First Lady, politics is still heavily driven by men so I feel that she could relate to the female interns working towards engineering degrees. How do you break the male-engineering stereotype and be as, if not more, successful?
It is probably a common question, but it is one that is very relevant to my place in life (soon to be grad) and it is a common topic in the WE@RIT (Women in Engineering at RIT) office. WE@RIT is constantly bringing in women from industry to talk about their lives in engineering with the female students. It would have been interesting to add Michelle’s words of wisdom to the list.

Thanks to Twitter we can still get a taste of what she had to say yesterday:
