First-Year Enrichment (FYE)
What is the one experience all first year students share? Besides the awkward family move-in, all first year students are automatically enrolled in a “First-Year Enrichment” Program. FYE is a weekly course that introduces students to the world of RIT through seminars about academic achievement, campus involvement, ethics, and decision-making. FYE is split into two sections: Discovery (introduces students to the academic side of RIT) and Pathways (allows students to choose a leadership service, or innovation and creativity path).
I just received confirmation that I have been accepted into the peer mentor program for this fall. As a peer mentor I work with the faculty supervisor for my FYE section and help lead programs and seminars while sharing my RIT experiences with the class. The last time I volunteered for this position I coached my students though their first round of mechanical engineering classes (everyone needs a little encouragement). It is always a fun time to welcome the underclassmen to campus!
Be sure to check back with the blog and on @RIT_Alissa for updates during my FYE experience.
Countdown: 5 weeks until freshmen move-in!
