I have been admitted to RIT. How do I pay the tuition?
Congratulations on your acceptance to RIT!
If you applied for admission prior to February 1st you are automatically considered for one of our merit scholarships. Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements for a merit scholarship are notified soon after they receive their admissions acceptance letters.
In addition to scholarships awarded to students who meet certain academic qualifications, RIT provides need-based grants. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the application used to apply for RIT need-based grants as well as to apply for federal and some state-sponsored aid programs.
If you completed a FAFSA prior to March 1st and listed RIT (school code #002806) on the FAFSA, you will receive a Financial Aid Award Letter. Award letters will start going out to admitted students on March 15th. You will be provided with the annual cost of tuition, fees, housing and meals. In addition, you will see a listing of grants, scholarships, loans and work that you qualify for to help in meeting the annual costs.
In the months leading up to May 1st financial aid applicants will receive their Financial Aid Award letters. And, the number one question is asked: How are we going to come up with the difference?
Now is the time to have a serious talk with your parents about paying for college. And, now is the time to search for outside scholarships (non-RIT and non-federal). Your scholarship search can begin on our website at http://www.rit.edu/emcs/financialaid/scholarships.html#schoolsearches. Searching for scholarships should be on your weekly agenda! Lineup that summer job and plan to set aside summer earnings for your college expenses.
Make a plan with your parents, now, to save money that you’ll need for college expenses. The more that you and your family can contribute the less you’ll need to borrow in loans.
