Olympic Swimmer? I think not...

One would think that growing up next to the ocean, I would be a fantastic swimmer.  Well, according to my roommate, who swam all through high school, that is not the case for me.  She asked me to go to the pool with her to swim laps, and I made the mistake of telling her I was a good swimmer.  I reasoned that not only did I have a lifetime of experience swimming in the lakes and ponds of Plymouth, MA (my hometown), I also have a sweet bathing suit that makes me look like a competitive swimmer.  The operative word being look; appearances can be deceiving.   As soon as we jumped in the pool and started swimming, she quickly dismissed the crazy notion of my impressive skill in my head.  Apparently being able to bum around the beach quite successfully does not constitute as being a good swimmer.  After going through the torture of her trying to fix my technique, I finally decided that the lazy river was more my scene and left the lap pool to go to the recreational one.  I found that I am quite skilled in the art of floating down a current, unfortunately you can't do that competitively.

One thing you can do competitively, however, is water basketball.  I finally had the upper hand on my roommate, being about a foot taller than her.  Going off of my momentum from watching the men's basketball game last week, I was playing to win.  I may have missed one out of every ten shots, but I eventually beat my roommate and left the pool victorious, for now.  We have a rematch planned eventually, but I plan to continue my winning streak next game.
