Portfolio Reviews

Ashley Hennigan on Monday, 15 November 2010.

An important part of any art, design, or craft application.

Preparing an art portfolio for admission to an undergraduate program can be a daunting task. I know, I've been there. For students preparing to send off their portfolios to RIT this fall, I invite you to consider an in-person portfolio review. Not only does this review allow you a chance to speak about your work, but it also gives you invaluable feedback from RIT faculty about how to improve upon your work in order to gain admission and possibly additional scholarship to the university.

As a graduate of the Fine Art Studio, BFA program in 2007, I am often encouraged at this time of year to help future students in their BFA application process. This past week's Open House on the RIT campus was a special reminder that in-person portfolio reviews are extremely valuable to an applicant.

If you are applying to a major in the School of Art, School of Design, or School of American Crafts  in the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences (CIAS) you will be required to submit a portfolio of work along with your undergraduate application to RIT.

Portfolio reviews can be conducted during the week with CIAS faculty by appointment. In the admissions office we are be happy to help your schedule your visit to campus and put you in contact with the correct person in the School or Art, Design, or American Crafts. You can reach our visit coordinator, Michelle Kinch by phone at 585-475-6736 or email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

There will also be a chance for applicants to have their portfolio reviewed at our last fall Open House on Friday, December 3rd. Registration for this event is available online here:

For those applicants who are unable to make the trip to campus before the application deadline, there is a great opportunity to meet with a representative near you at a National Portfolio Day event.
