RIT Hockey was able to head up to the North Country last weekend and take one of two games from St. Lawrence University. The games were closely contested, with both teams winning 4-3, respectively. RIT won Friday night, while St. Lawrence won on Saturday night. RIT had the lead on Saturday night but were not able to hold on and win the game.
The win on Friday night was encouraging because Appleton Arena is not an easy place to play. With that being said, RIT gave up a couple shorthanded goals and goalie Josh Watson had some trouble keeping track of the puck at times. RIT Hockey is having the same problems they had in the first half of the season, unfortunately.
RIT returns to the friendly confines of Ritter Arena this weekend, as Bentley comes to town for a pair. Bentley has played well this year and sits in the upper half of the standings in Atlantic Hockey. I believe that RIT will be very motivated this weekend. Bentley is only two points ahead of RIT in the standings and with a sweep they can leap frog Bentley in Atlantic Hockey.
This weekend could be the turning point in the season. If RIT can win two games, they can set themselves up for a run at a home playoff series at the Ritter. I am not convinced that they will be able to achieve a top four spot by the end of the season. However, I do believe that we will see the best weekend of hockey that RIT has played this weekend. I have an RIT sweep this weekend.
