RIT's Registration System

Registering for classes has always been pretty easy for me. RIT opens up the registration system every day at 6 AM for a different year level starting with 5th years, then 4th years, etc. Everyone that is that year level wakes up just a little before 6 and then right at 6 everyone attempts to log on to the system. Usually it takes 10 - 15 minutes before you can make it in to the system because there are so many people logging on that the system reaches a limit.

Last quarter I was able to sign on a couple minutes before 6, register for classes, and be back in bed 15 minutes later. The system time is a minute or two off from what the actual time is so you can sneak in even though it's not technically 6 AM. This was the ideal registration process and it should work like that everytime. Last week, however, I was rather unlucky when it was registration time.

I woke up around 5:50 and had my tentative schedule prepared. I had a headache from not getting enough sleep so I was already in a bad mood. I tried logging on and I was unable to. This was typical so I wasn't too bothered by the fact that I couldn't log on. However, after an hour and a half of not being able to log on to the registration system, I was pretty upset... Especially since it was 7:30 in the morning.

I was finally able to sign in and I began registering. Two of the classes I had in my tentative schedule were closed (full) so I was unable to sign up for them. My schedule was a mess and I was wondering why I even woke up to register? Okay. I know I'm being dramatic.. but this is how I felt trying to deal with this early in the morning.

This was last Monday and I didn't want to deal with the registration system so I didn't... Until yesterday. I was bored and happened to look at the listing of open and closed courses and one that I needed had opened up! I signed into the class as quick as I could so that no one else could take it.

My class schedule for spring quarter has classes between noon and 6 PM and a couple hours of breaks between classes. I don't have anything too early or too late. I still have to register for one more class but I'm sure I can get one to fit in so that way I still have a nice schedule. Everything has worked out pretty well regarding my schedule. I guess I can't complain too much..
