Saturdays are for Sleeping

Emily Okey on Wednesday, 27 January 2010. Posted in Coursework, Student Life

After a long week, Saturdays are much appreciated. You can tell by the lack of people on the academic side of campus. In fact, it took a good 10 minutes of walking this morning to see a single other person. Kind of a strange feeling especially knowing that there are almost 16,000 other students on campus. Of course, there are those that live off-campus but the majority of students are just sleeping in! Good thinking, on their part. I, on the other hand, woke up early to work on some homework before my art history review session. Ew, classes on a weekend right? Actually it's not bad at all. My art history class is the largest one I've taken yet, there are about 60 people in the class and it's taught in a large lecture hall. The professor is super nice and the weekend before a test she will come back on campus and hold a review session for us to ask questions and go over last minute information. It's really great because only about 20 or so people come everytime so it's more one on one learning and helps me prepare a lot better.

So, why am I talking about this on a Wednesday? Because I'm looking forward to the weekend! It seriously cannot come soon enough.

This week has been oddly stressful. It's the awkward week 6. Technically midterms are week 5 and finals are week 10 but for some reason my classes are always busiest on weeks 6 and 9. On Monday I had a pop quiz in deaf lit, art history midterm, typography presentation on a famous designer, and photo critique for my class. Let's just say there were few moments to stop and rest! Yesterday was pretty much the same but it consisted of a lot of hours of work. Last night I was so exhausted that I passed out by 10:30 :) And yes, that's early by my standards.

Friday is another hockey game! I realized yesterday that there are only 6 more home games this season... I don't know what I'm going to do with myself afterwards. Good thing this year is the olympics in addition to all of the NHL games. After the game on Friday there is a post-tailgate (?) is that even a word? It's a fundraiser for Invisible Children, the Jack Swift Band is going to be there and other fun things. Saturday is the Make the Rink Pink game that you might have been hearing about. There is a story about it on the main RIT page as well as some of the bloggers previous posts. There is going to be a "tailgate" at the RITZ (one of the places to eat on campus, located in the basement of the SAU). They frequently hold themed tailgates before the games as a way for people to get together and hang out.

As long as I'm jumping around and talking about every topic possible in this post. Congratulations to all of the recently accepted students! Have you check out the sweet accepted students homepage yet?! It has just been released and it's looking pretty cool, some of the staff at the admissions office have been working really hard on it. My favorite part of it is on the right hand side, you can type in your major and it customizes the page for you! So let's say you're a graphic design major... it would then suggest links on the RIT site for you based on that as well as suggest bloggers to look at :)

This week is the Accepted Students Phone/Chat Power which means that you will most likely have a current student calling your house between the hours of 5 and 7 to see if you have any questions. You can also log onto the website and use the code provided to chat with current as well as future students online. If these don't suit your needs, check out the RIT facebook page! Or post comments on the blogs and we'll try and answer your questions as quickly as possible!
