Spring Break: Destination Cabo!

Jacob Sachs on Monday, 21 March 2011. Posted in Vacation / Break

Over Spring break, I traveled with over 15 of my fraternity brothers down to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico for our annual leadership retreat.

We participate in a program each year called the American Leadership Academy [ALA], a program set up by one of our Fraternity's alumni, Jerry Nelson. Jerry Nelson is the founder of a number of successful companies, including TicketMaster.

We arrived on Sunday afternoon and stayed for the week at our hotel, Marabella Suites en la Playa, which the program owns, so we did not have to pay for the hotel rooms. The hotel was nice, right on the beach with a great view.

For the next few days we had a nice relaxing vacation, hanging around at the hotel and going out around Cabo to see the sights and sounds. I would say the highlight of these few days was definitely going on ATV's through the desert and on the beach, despite that I had some trouble with my ATV breaking down on me a few times.

The city was fun to explore, including the night time, most of all the fact that almost all of the restaurants and clubs were open-roofed because the weather is so nice with almost no rain and warm nights and hot days all through the year.

Thursday and Friday we spent the day doing the ALA program, with a number of notable speakers talking with us, including Jerry, and Paul Wineman, a former national president of the Fraternity who has made his living as a negotiator for major corporatsions.

Overall, Cabo was one of the best vacations of my life so far, but also, and more importantly, it was one of the best leadership training programs I have been through. From this program, I gained lessons that I can apply to the rest of my life experiences. It was a great time and I am looking forward to hopefully coming back next year.
