I just stumbled upon the promo video for the 2010 RArecruitment season.

The Resident Advisor (RA) program is a student leadershipprogram within the RIT Center for Residence Life. RA’s are responsible for anassigned community of on-campus students and are required to act as anEducator, Community Builder, Helper, Team Member, Leader and Administrator forthe students over which they reside. By working in the Residence Halls (primarily first year students), weare the first-line of support for our residents.

With only about 110 RA positions available on campus, thecompetition for positions is intense on campus. Therefore the recruitmentseason will begin in the next few weeks as prospective RA’s submit paperapplications for review. Of those submitted, a select number will be called toreturn for the second round of selection – personal interviews with currentRA’s and Professional Staff. Needless to say, the selection process is long, but the end result (anawesome student staff) is a solid one.

I have been working on the ResLife staff for the past twoand a half years. Most of my time has been spent in Residence Hall C where Iworked as the RA for the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. I was assigned to sixteenupper-class girls…. I would have to say “low maintenance” compared to my incomingwinter crew of 44 first-year students in Fish Hall… I imagine this is will aTOTALLY different experience, and one that will definitely produce some comicalblog postings.

Either way you look at it, whether I am painting nails inthe sorority house – or chasing down the hall sports in Fish, the residencehalls are truly a place “where living and learning come together” and one ofthe most rewarding paces to work on campus.
