2D Graphics Programming

Joe Conley on Friday, 08 December 2006. Posted in Coursework, Majors & Minors

I'm starting something new on this blog. For my 2D game development class I have to document my experiences in an online journal, so I'm putting that on here so people can see what this class is like.

Game development is starting to be a big thing at RIT, and they've launched a few game related degrees recently that have have peaked my interest. I've been a big fan of games for a long time, and I've had a lot of fun previously making things in flash and director. But when it came to trying to make a big, full-featured game in Multi-User Media Spaces class last year, it was an incredible amount of work. It was tedious to say the least, and it started to feel like as much as I liked to play games, making them might not be worth the trouble.

At the same time, I have a hard time thinking of some software project I could work on that would be more worthwhile and interesting than a game (well, the right game). I just have to give it a try in these 2D and 3D game development classes and see if its for me.
