An Inside Tip About Financial Aid!

Let's just all be honest, RIT isn't the cheapest of colleges (however it's definately worth evey penny). When I got accepted into RIT and got my financial aid packet, it was good, but not quitttee enough. I needed just a little bit more to make it affordable. So I called the Financial Aid office and they have all of the answers you need! And here's a tip they told me that I've used every year since and helps me out so much!

What most people don't know is that you can appeal your financial aid. Meaning that if you were in a situation like  was, you can appeal to get more aid. And no, they'll never take away aid, but you do have a chance to get offered more (it varies on case by case obviously). What you need to do is write a letter to the Financial Aid Appeals Committee, explaining to them why you need more aid and including very specific details about you and your families finances which may have not been seen/documented in your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is a form everyone has to fill out for financial aid. Every family and situation is different, so you're never guarenteed a certain amount, but it's always worth a try.

Call yout Financial Aid advisor for more details and specific addresses to send the letter to. I've appealed my financial aid every year, due to the fact that not all of my family's necessary expenses are recordable in the FAFSA. It's definately worth the effort to see if you qualify for more aid. You have nothing to lose!

Good luck to all of you who are applying and a big congrats to those of you who are accepted! I'll see you on the quarter mile! Follow me on Twitter to hear more about my college experiences!
