Art at a Tech School?! Whaaat?!

So, when people ask me where I go to school, I proudly respond “Rochester Institute of Technology.” The impressed ‘awws’ then follow, along with “So, what kind of engineering are you doing?” I kindly respond that I am in fact doing art at a tech school that happens to have an incredible art program that is nationally ranked.

Just to brag a bit, RIT’s graphic design MFA is tied for 12th place and photography tied for 3rd in the nation according to US News & World Report in 2009. So while RIT does have amazing engineering/tech programs, the art programs are a big deal as well.

Being an art student is definitely way more work than I had thought. The homework and time needed for each class to produce an awesome piece or product takes so much more time, and to the artist, their work is never truly finished. However, once you have a finished product that shows how much blood, sweat, and tears you put into the piece is truly satisfactory. Especially when you get a good grade.

On a side note, Brick City Homecoming is this weekend and I’m really excited! I’m going to go see Al Pacino and the hockey game which should be epic!
