Bringing Vision to Reality-LeaderShape

Elishia Ortiz on Thursday, 21 June 2012.

Hi Everyone!

I hope your Summer is going fantastic! I’m back from my 6 month internship at Neutrogena in Los Angeles and now I’m back again in California for Leadership camp. I’m in Tahoe City, California for a camp called LeaderShape. If you get the chance to participate I wouldn’t pass it up for anything! The mission of LeaderShape is to transform the world by increasing the number of people who lead with integrity and a healthy disregard for the impossible.

I’m on my 4th day of camp and every student here has a vision to help improve or make a great change for the community, an organization, or even the world. I’ve been so inspired being around students who are so passionate and driven to make a change. This camp not only teaches us all leadership skills but LeaderShape takes all the students on a journey of self-discovery that includes the identification of passions and visions and the commitment to achieve your manageable and stretch goals. There are about 56 students here and we have engaged in reflection, small group feedback on our visions, action planning, fun activities like low ropes courses and large group sessions during the past couple of days.

Yesterday the Vice President of LeaderShape, Mike McFee came and spoke to us about his experiences and how he has gotten to where he is today. Marty Bryant, Senior Account Manager for Google and Terry Chadsey, Executive Director for the Center for Courage & Renewal also came and spoke to us. It was great hearing what there visions were when they attended LeaderShape and advice they had for us on beginning our careers and networking.

I’m loving every minute of LeaderShape and I can’t believe were leaving on Friday. Being here has truly opened my eyes to my real vision, which is to create a place where all women can be empowered to be successful. Today’s theme is creating a vision for the greater good of a community and we will be working on our Blueprint, which helps us identify how to ensure success for our vision and goals.

Spending a week in the mountains surrounded by forest, disconnected from my daily job and social life, getting to know new people, and coming up with my vision has truly had an impact on me!

There are two days left at camp so keep posted!
