I know, I know, this is super late. But better late than never, right? This past summer I co-op'd at the ad agency Arnold Worldwide in New York City. It was probably one of the best summer experiences I've ever had and I learned a ton!
I worked as a User Experience Intern, so basically I worked on concepting, strategy, research, and wireframing digital experiences for the agency. Working in the advertising world was a unique experience to see how advertisements that you see everyday come into being. It's a fast-paced, competitive world and I got the opportunity to not only work on real client work, but to also interact with these clients and present my work! I learned so much and I feel a lot more prepared for getting a real job at the end of this year *crosses fingers*.
Just living in New York City was an experience in itself! I lived in a single dorm run by International House, which provides students and interns housing and is pretty affordable for NYC. There's always something going on (and a lot of the time free!) somewhere in the city, and I had a bunch of friends also there during the summer, so I was never bored. I tried to take advantage of every opportunity presented to me this summer and see everything I could in the city! While I still have a long list of things I still want to do in NYC, I think I accomplished a lot during the 3 months I was there, including visiting art museums, seeing free movies in Byrant Park, experiencing the nightlife, and seeing a Broadway show (I saw Annie and got to meet Jane Lynch who was playing Ms. Hannigan!).
This past summer was a great experience and I would do it all over again. And maybe someday I'll find my way back to the city! =) Follow me on Twitter to hear all about my last year at RIT!
