The weekend that everyone is waiting for is almost here… This weekend is the July session of College and Careers.
Everyone in the Admissions office is working very hard to get ready for it.
College and Careers is an Event that Happens twice a year; once in July (this weekend) and once in August (7 -8) a few weeks from now. This program is for juniors in high school, to give them an overview about what the college life is like. I am lucky enough to be able to help out for what will be my second College and Careers. Last year I had a blast. Though it was a long weekend, I loved interacting with potential students and showing them what a great campus RIT is. This program is unlike any other.
On Friday all the families arrive and check in. The students will be able to drop off their stuff the dorm room they will be sleeping in. There will be campus tours available through out the day, from 1:15pm – 3:15pm leaving every 15 min. There are also dorm rooms set up with merchandise from different stores to give the parents and students ideas of when they start their dorm shopping.
Through out the day there are parts when the students and parents will follow different schedules. Students have a fuller schedule but they also have the most fun.
There is a welcome presentation along with a fun survivor game, where students are picked from the audience to participate in fun challenges, with the chance to win some prizes, of course!
Then the students get to have dinner in the First year dinning hall. This is a great opportunity to meat many of the other students as well as the ambassadors. Have a chance for any one on one questions for the students that already have spend some time at RIT.
If you are not able to ask all your questions during dinner, there is a panel where a few luck ambassadors (like me) will share our experiences at RIT as well as answer and question asked by the students. Students can ask anything from College life, to academics, to the transition from high school to college.
In the night time from 9pm – 11pm we have many fun social events available to the students. Some of the big hits from last year are…
RIT “Rock Band” where
a group of four students can show of their musical talents.
Swimming/Hot tub, after a long day of touring RIT its nice to relax in the 24 person hot tub or take a swim, if you want just float around in the lazy river , yeah we have a lazy river
There are a lot of new events this year,
Showing 3-D movie of “Caroline” Tom Gasek an assistant professor in the School of Film and animation and character animator spent four weeks working on this movie.
Human Hamster Ball Race I have never done this but it sounds like soo much fun, I’m very excited.
On Friday parents can take a walk through the Bevier Gallery and take a look at work done by current RIT students.
From 3:45 – 4:45 there is the first half of the academic sessions. You can pick from any of the colleges listed bellow
College of Applied Science and Technology, College of Imaging Arts and Science (Art, Design & Crafts), College of Liberal Arts, College of Science.
From 5 – 6 there is the second half of the academic sessions this time you can pick from
Golisano College of Computing & Information Science, College of Imaging arts and Science (Photography, Film, & Print Media), Also Universities Studies.
The parents also have some fun events planned for them.
A Parent Reception at “Lovin’ Cup”, a new hang out spots for students that just opened at Park Point.
Saturday we start bight and early at 7am.
Students will be busy from 9am till 2:45pm with sessions that they selected. With an hour break for Lunch.
There are many info sessions for the parents.

Financial Aid Presentation: Explaining anything dealing with paying for college and the financial aid available.
The best part the day the student panel; (where you get to see me again). Parents can get the insight on RIT from the perspective of current RIT students.
